in Marxist Theories
[ send
me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Marxist theories regarding expressivism
overflow into social and political theory and philosophy.
While expressivism can be considered a freedom that we can
all choose to enjoy, that expressivism can overrun its
boundaries and turn into something negative, as though it
had a life of its own. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

FDR's
"Splendid Deception" and its Motivations
[ send
me this paper ]
A 6 page paper discussing FDR's efforts in hiding his
paralysis from the American public in relation to Charles
Smith's views of public and private behavior argued in
Critique of Sociological Reasoning. Smith holds that all
human behavior, including that resulting from the
experience of disability, can be categorized into three
levels. The experience of Franklin D. Roosevelt is used
here to illustrate those levels and then proclaim that
while FDR operated from all three levels, it was Level 3,
the most altruistic, that could most frequently describe
his behavior as related to his disability. Bibliography

Freud
and Human Nature.
[ send
me this paper ]
(5 pp) according to Freud (1930) human nature is "the
struggle between Eros and Death, between the instinct of
life and the instinct of destruction, as it works itself
out in the human species. This struggle is what all life
essentially consists of, and the evolution of civilization
may therefore be described as the struggle for life of the
human species. He adds that the sense of guilt is the most
important problem in the development of civilization? and
that ?the price we pay for our advance in civilization is
a loss of happiness through the heightening of the sense
of guilt? Personal responses to this statement are given.

Functionalism
and the Case of Amadou Diallo
[ send
me this paper ]
A 7 page paper discussing the case of the shooting of
Amadou Diallo in 1999 and the subsequent 2000 acquittal of
all four police officers involved. It is difficult to see
that there can be any good or moral reason for Diallo's
death. From the functionalist perspective however, reasons
for the police officers' action can be seen. The
functionalist view is unlikely to bear scrutiny in court,
and that too is a good thing. Though the police officers
can be seen to have acted from the influence of pressures
in other circumstances, they still need to be held
accountable for their own actions. Includes an outline;
bibliography lists 6 sources.

office culture, while Emile Durkheim's theory on the
division of labor helps to understand why instances of
discrimination and hate exist. Bibliography lists 6
